IntelliSense – Bale Automation by New Holland is a big step towards automation of baling. A LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) sensor mounted on the top of the tractor cab reads off the volume and position of the swath that is to be baled. The data from the scan is then used to control the direction and ground speed of the tractor to enable a smoother, more optimum, flow of material into the baler. There are similar systems in use on combine harvesters, where LiDAR sensors read the crop load in front of the header and adjust the ground speed accordingly.
The technology is retrofittable. It is available in Sweden from New Holland retailers (eg AgroMaskiner).
New Holland presented this technology at Agritechnica 2022, announced it to the market in September 2023, and made it available in 2024.
